The Team

LowellThompson & Cotton Stevenson

Lowell Thompson and Cotton Stevenson worked at some of the same Chicago agencies, about 10 years apart. They didn’t know of each other until they met on FaceBook,

Lowell was writing books, painting Chicago and generally using his creativity trying to save the world. Cotton had retired from the ad game, moved with his wife, Maura, to San Jose and had gone back to school and gotten a masters degree in documentary filmmaking.

When Lowell posted the cover and first pages of his  “Mad Invisible Man”, Cotton…pounced.

“Why don’t we make it a documentary about you and the other first generation Black Mad Men & Women?” He was intrigued partially because he remembered how surprised he was when he started at FCB, Chicago and met AfAm ad stars like Bernie Washington, Bill Daniel, Phil Gant. It was a far cry from his hometown, Memphis.

The 5 minute “Channels Changers” preview is the result of about 6 months of work by some of Cotton’s A-level friends who loved the idea and did the work with little or no  pay. Please donate so we can pay them for what they’ve already done…and to do the work necessary to complete the film. Thanks.
